Sir George Cayley "Father of Aviation" invented the fixed-wing aircraft and much else.
Our MissionSir George was an English genius of invention insufficiently recognised in his own country. Therefore in 2002 a committee of family and supporters was established at Brompton by Sawdon, the Yorkshire village from where Sir George managed his estate, experimented, built fantastic machines, fathered 10 children and where several descendants continue to live. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first known flight of an adult in a manned aircraft a re-enactment was planned and successfully demonstrated in June 2003. Our mission is to continue to commemorate Sir George Cayley's many contributions to science and technology.
